বান্দলাৰ জন্ম হৈছিল ভাৰতৰ অন্ধ্ৰ প্ৰদেশৰ গুন্টুৰ জিলাৰ এটা তেলেগু হিন্দু পৰিয়ালত।[7][8] জন্মৰ পিছত বান্দলাৰ পৰিয়াল অন্ধ্ৰ প্ৰদেশৰ তেনালিলৈ গুচি যায়। পাঁচ বছৰ বয়সলৈকে বান্দলাই হায়দৰাবাদৰ নিজৰ ককাকৰ ঘৰ আৰু টেনালিৰ আইতাকৰ ঘৰৰ মাজত লৰালিৰ সময় পাৰ কৰিছিল।[9][10] পিছলৈ বাণ্ডলা পিতৃ-মাতৃৰ সৈতে আমেৰিকাৰ হিউষ্টনলৈ গুচি যায়।[9][11]

বাণ্ডলাই পাৰডিউ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ পৰা বিমান অভিযান্ত্ৰিকীত স্নাতক ডিগ্ৰী লাভ কৰে। ইয়াৰ পিছত তেওঁ জৰ্জ ৱাশ্বিংটন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ পৰা ব্যৱসায় প্ৰশাসনত স্নাতকোত্তৰ ডিগ্ৰী লাভ কৰে।[12]

বাণ্ডলাই নাছাৰ মহাকাশচাৰী হোৱাৰ আশা কৰিছিল যদিও চকুৰ দৃষ্টিশক্তিৰ বাবে চিকিৎসাৰ আধাৰত তেওঁক বাদ দিয়া হৈছিল।[11] ইয়াৰ পূৰ্বে তেওঁ কমাৰ্চিয়েল স্পেচফ্লাইট ফেডাৰেচনত মেথিউ ইছাকোভিচৰ সৈতে মহাকাশ অভিযন্তা হিচাপে কাম কৰিছিল।[12] পিছলৈ তেওঁৰ সন্মানত তেওঁ মেথিউ ইছাকোভিচ ফেল'শ্বিপৰ সহ-প্ৰতিষ্ঠাপক হয়।[13]
