জৌহৰ বা জৌহাৰ বা জোহৰ[1][2] ভাৰতীয় (ৰাজপুত) হিন্দু নাৰীয়ে নিজেই নিজৰ দেহত বা পতি, পিতৃ বা ভ্ৰাতৃৰ হতুৱাই অগ্নিসংযোগ কৰি প্ৰাণ বিসৰ্জন দিয়া কাৰ্য।[3] মুছলমান আক্ৰমণকাৰীসকলৰ সৈতে হোৱা যুদ্ধত নিশ্চিত পৰাজয়ৰ সন্মুখীন হ'লে তেওঁলোকৰ হাতত ধৰা পৰা, দাসত্ব আৰু ধৰ্ষণৰ পৰা হাত সাৰিবলৈ এনে আত্মহননৰ কাৰ্যপন্থা হাতত লোৱা হৈছিল।[4][5][6][7][8] কিছুসংখ্যক প্ৰতিবেদনত মহিলাসকলে নিজৰ সন্তানক লগত লৈ জৌহৰ পালন কৰাৰ কথা উল্লেখ আছে।[9][10] ঐতিহাসিকভাৱে শত্ৰুসৈন্যৰ সৈতে হোৱা যুদ্ধৰ সময়ত ভাৰতৰ উত্তৰ-পশ্চিম অঞ্চলৰ ৰাজস্থানৰ হিন্দু ৰাজপুত ৰাজ্যসমূহত জৌহৰ প্ৰথা পালন কৰা হৈছিল।[11][12][13][7] অৱশ্যে যিসমূহ যুদ্ধত বিজয়ৰ কোনো সম্ভাৱনা নাছিল তেনে যুদ্ধৰ সময়তহে জৌহৰ পালন কৰা হৈছিল। এই প্ৰথাৰ সৈতে পুৰুষসকলে শাকা (যুদ্ধত অন্তিম স্থিতি) পালন কৰিছিল আৰু যুদ্ধত প্ৰাণ আহুতি দিছিল।

জৌহৰ শব্দটোৱে প্ৰায়ে অগ্নিত আত্মাহুতি আৰু শাকা এই দুই প্ৰথাকে বুজায়। জৌহৰৰ সময়ত ৰাজপুত নাৰীসকলে নিজৰ সন্তান আৰু সকলো মূল্যৱান সা-সম্পত্তি লৈ যুদ্ধোত্তৰ কালত হ'ব পৰা লাঞ্ছনাৰ পৰা আগতীয়াকৈ মুক্তি পাবলৈ অগ্নিত নিজকে জলাঞ্জলি দিছিল।[7][14] একেসময়তে বা এই কাৰ্যৰ পিছত পুৰুষসকলে ৰীতিগতভাৱে নিশ্চিত মৃত্যুৰ দিশে সমৰক্ষেত্ৰলৈ আগবাঢ়ে। ইয়াকে কোৱা হয় শাকা[1] নিজৰ সন্মান যে জীৱনটোতকৈ উচ্চ তাকেই দেখুৱাবলৈ এই প্ৰথা পালন কৰা হৈছিল।

দিল্লী চুলতানেৎ আৰু মোগল সাম্ৰাজ্যৰ ইতিহাসবিদসকলে হিন্দু ৰাজ্যসমূহে পালন কৰা জৌহৰৰ ঘটনা লিপিবদ্ধ কৰিছে।[14][15][16] সততে উল্লেখ কৰা জৌহৰৰ ঘটনাসমূহৰ ভিতৰত ১৩০৩ চনত ৰাজস্থানৰ চিত্তোৰগড় দুৰ্গৰ মহিলাসকলে দিল্লীৰ খিলজী ৰাজবংশৰ সৈন্যৰ আগ্ৰাসনৰ সময়ত কৰা জৌহৰ উল্লেখযোগ্য।[17][18] এই প্ৰথা ভাৰতৰ অন্য কিছু অংশ যেনে কৰ্ণাটকৰ কম্পিলী ৰাজ্যতো প্ৰচলিত আছিল আৰু ১৩২৭ চনত দিল্লীৰ চুলতানৰ আক্ৰমণৰ সময়ত তেওঁলোকে এই পথ বাছি লৈছিল।[16]

প্ৰতিবছৰে চিত্তোৰগড়ত পূৰ্বপুৰুষসকলৰ স্মৃতিচাৰণৰ উদ্দেশ্যেৰে জৌহৰ মেলা নামৰ এক উদযাপনৰ আয়োজন কৰা হয়।[19]

জৌহৰ শব্দৰ ব্যুৎপত্তি[সম্পাদনা কৰক]

জৌহৰ শব্দটো সংস্কৃত শব্দ জতুগৃহৰ সৈতে জড়িত। জতুগৃহৰ অৰ্থ হৈছে লা তথা অন্যান্য দাহনশীল পদাৰ্থৰে সজা ঘৰ যাক ভিতৰত সোমাই থকা মানুহক জীৱন্তে দাহ কৰিবলৈ ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা হৈছিল।[20] ৰত্ন বা মূল্য বুজোৱা পাৰ্ছী শব্দ গোহাৰৰ পৰাও জৌহৰ শব্দৰ উৎপত্তি হোৱা কোৱা হৈছিল।[21]

অনুশীলন[সম্পাদনা কৰক]

সতীদাহ প্ৰথাৰ সৈতে জৌহৰ প্ৰথাৰ সাংস্কৃতিক ভিত্তিত তেনেকৈ সম্পৰ্ক নাই বুলি ক'ব পাৰি। দুয়োটা প্ৰথাতে নাৰী এগৰাকীয়ে আত্মজাহ দিয়ে যদিও দুয়োটাৰে তাৎপৰ্য ভিন্ন। সতীদাহ প্ৰথাত এগৰাকী বিধৱা নাৰীয়ে তেওঁৰ মৃত পতিৰ চিতাত বহি আত্মজাহ যায়।[22] আনহাতে জৌহৰ প্ৰথাত সমূহীয়াভাৱে বহুকেইগৰাকী নাৰীয়ে অনুপ্ৰৱেশকাৰী বা আক্ৰমণকাৰীৰ হাতত পৰাজয় নিশ্চিত হ'লে ধৰা নপৰিবলৈ বা দাসত্ত্ব বৰণ নকৰিবলৈ আত্মজাহ দিয়ে।[23] আত্মহত্যাৰ অন্য উপায়তকৈ আত্মজাহক এই বাবেই বাছি লোৱা হয় যাতে তেওঁলোকৰ মৃতদেহৰ প্ৰতি কৰা অসন্মান তেওঁলোকৰ পতি, সন্তান বা অন্য লোকে দেখিবলগীয়া নহয়।

কৌশিক ৰয়ৰ মতে কেৱলমাত্ৰ হিন্দু-মুছলমানৰ যুদ্ধতহে ৰাজপুতসকলৰ মাজত জৌহৰ পালন কৰা হৈছিল। দুটা হিন্দু পক্ষৰ মাজত হোৱা যুদ্ধত এই প্ৰথা পালন কৰা হোৱা নাছিল।[24] অৱশ্যেজন হাৱলীয়ে এই মতৰ সৈতে অসন্মতি প্ৰকাশ কৰে। তেওঁ ভাৰতলৈ গ্ৰীকসকলৰ দিগ্বিজয় অভিযানৰ সৈতে সংযোগ স্থাপন কৰি কয় যে তেওঁলোকেও ভাৰতীয় নাৰীক কৰায়ত্ত কৰিছিল আৰু সম্ভৱতঃ ইয়াৰপৰাই জৌহৰ প্ৰথাৰ প্ৰসাৰ ঘটে।[25] বীণা তালৱাৰ ওল্ডেনবাৰ্গেও মত প্ৰকাশ কৰে যে মুছলমানসকলৰ আগ্ৰাসনৰ আগেয়ে ৰাজপুত ৰাজ্যসকলৰ মাজত হোৱা যুদ্ধসমূহেই প্ৰায় নিশ্চিতভাৱে প্ৰথম জৌহৰৰ সূচনা কৰিছিল। দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমৰ ভৌগোলিক ৰাজনীতিৰ ফলত ৰাজস্থান এক ধাৰাবাহিক যুদ্ধক্ষেত্ৰলৈ পৰিণত হৈছিল আৰু এই ঠাইৰ আটাইতকৈ সন্মানীয় জাতি ব্ৰাহ্মণৰ সলনি সেই ভূমিক নিয়ন্ত্ৰণ তথা সুৰক্ষা প্ৰদান কৰা ক্ষত্ৰিয় বা ৰাজপুতসকলহে আছিল। তেওঁ লগতে কয় যে এই ইতিহাস মুছলমানসকলৰ ভাৰত আগমণৰো হাজাৰ বছৰ আগৰ। ৰাজস্থান আৰু বিজয়নগৰৰ খননকাৰ্যত উদ্ধাৰ হোৱা স্মৃতিশিলাসমূহে নাৰী-পুৰুষ উভয়ৰে মৃত্যুৰ কথা সূচায়। তেওঁৰ বক্তব্য অনুসৰি এইসমূহৰ তাৰিখ পতিয়নযোগ্যভাৱে নিৰ্ধাৰণ কৰিব পাৰি আৰু ই যুদ্ধৰ কাল তথা স্থানৰ সৈতে খাপ খাই পৰে।[26]

হিন্দু আৰু মুছলমান উভয় পক্ষৰ পৰা পোৱা জৌহৰ প্ৰথাৰ প্ৰতিবেদন ভিন্ন। হিন্দু পৰম্পৰাত জৌহৰক শত্ৰুপক্ষৰ হাতত জাতিটোৰ নিশ্চিত পৰাজয়ৰ সময়ত এক বীৰত্বৰ কাৰ্য বুলি গণ্য কৰা হৈছিল।[7][27] মুছলমান ইতিহাসবিদসকলৰ বৰ্ণনা মতে এয়া আছিল নাৰীসকলৰ ওপৰত বলপূৰ্বক জাপি দিয়া এক প্ৰথা।[1] অধ্যাপক অৰবিন্দ শৰ্মাৰ মতে আমিৰ খুছৰুৱে এই প্ৰথাক যাদুকৰী তথা কুসংস্কাৰমূলক যদিও বীৰত্বৰ কাৰ্য বুলি বৰ্ণনা কৰিছে।[28]

জৌহৰৰ ঘটনাসমূহ[সম্পাদনা কৰক]

জৌহৰৰ বেছিকৈ উল্লেখ হোৱা ঘটনাৰ ভিতৰত ৰাজস্থানৰ চিত্তোৰগড়ত ১৩০৩, ১৫৩৫ আৰু ১৫৬৮ চনত সংঘটিত হোৱা জৌহৰেই প্ৰধান।[29][30] জয়ছালমেৰত খিলজী ৰাজবংশ আৰু টোঘলকসকলৰ ৰাজত্বকালত যথাক্ৰমে ১২৯৫ আৰু ১৩২৬ চনত জৌহৰৰ দুটাকৈ ঘটনা সংঘটিত হয়।[31][32] ৰাজস্থানৰ স্থানীয় শোকগীতি আৰু লোক-সংস্কৃতিত জৌহৰ আৰু শাকাক গৌৰৱময় আৰু বীৰত্বৰ কাৰ্য হিচাপে উপস্থাপন কৰা হৈছে।[33]

আগালাছই আৰু মাল্লিৰ জৌহৰ সদৃশ আত্মহনন : আলেকজেণ্ডাৰ[সম্পাদনা কৰক]

উত্তৰ-পশ্চিম ভাৰতৰ আগালাছই জনজাতিৰ সমূহীয়া আত্মজাহৰ বিষয়ে খ্ৰীষ্টিয় দ্বিতীয় শতিকাৰ আলেকজেণ্ডাৰ বিষয়ক এৰিয়ানৰ সামৰিক ইতিহাস (খ্ৰীষ্টপূৰ্ব ৩৩৬-৩২৩) দ্য এনাবেচিছ অফ আলেকজেণ্ডাৰ শীৰ্ষক গ্ৰন্থৰ দ্বিতীয় পৰ্বত উল্লেখ কৰা হৈছে। এৰিয়ানে উল্লেখ কৰিছে যে আলেকজেণ্ডাৰৰ সৈন্যই উত্তৰ-পশ্চিম ভাৰতৰ অধিবাসীসকলক পৰাজিত কৰি দাসত পৰিণত কৰে। সেয়ে প্ৰায় ২০ হাজাৰ নৰ-নাৰী আৰু শিশোৱে এখন আগালোছী চহৰত অগ্নিসংযোগ কৰি তাতে জাহ যায়।[34][35]

সিন্ধৰ জৌহৰ: মহম্মদ দিন কাছিম[সম্পাদনা কৰক]

৭১২ চনত মহম্মদ বিন কাছিমে ভাৰতৰ পশ্চিম প্ৰান্ত আক্ৰমণ কৰে। তেওঁ সিন্ধ অঞ্চলৰ শাসক ৰজা দাহিৰৰ ৰাজধানী আক্ৰমণ কৰে। যুদ্ধত দাহিৰৰ মৃত্যুৰ পিছত ৰাণী লড়ীয়ে বহুমাহ ধৰি ৰাজধানীৰ সুৰক্ষাৰ তদাৰক কৰে। খাদ্যবস্তু শেষ হৈ অহাৰ পিছত ৰাণীৰ লগতে নগৰৰ মহিলাসকলে আত্মসমৰ্পণ কৰিবলৈ অস্বীকাৰ কৰে আৰু চিতাত অগ্নিসংযোগ কৰি জৌহৰ পালন কৰে। বাকী থকা পুৰুষসকলে অনুপ্ৰৱেশকাৰী শত্ৰুসৈন্যৰ আগত নিজৰ প্ৰাণ আহুতি দিবলৈ ওলাই আহে।[37][38]
