Abt font I think that you need to add a line in Mediawiki:Monobook.css which can be done by an admin only. I had changed the font to 14 pt, when I was admin but it seems that its not working. I will try to fix it again. Thanks. --Eukesh ১৯:৫১, ১২ May ২০০৭ (UTC)

About changing size in system messages

I havent tried to change the font size of system message myself but I think that you can do it through Mediawiki:monobook.css . If it does not change even after that, you might change it through Bugzilla by reporting them that the default size for font should be larger. Bot to replace ৰ by ৰ

I tried running a Bot to replace the Bengali r. This I thought would be quick. But somehow I could not make it work. Is there a way I could disable the "write in Assamese" option in the preference? Do you who created this? Thanks.

Pryankoo, this is in response to your reply to Deepraj. Have you ever obtained the pro-kaar using the Assamese ro? I have not. This is because the pro-kaar is displayed by unicode according to a table in the ttf font file that combines the consonant+hasanta+ro to give the correct glyph. Since we use fonts that are primarily used for Bengali, this feature is absent in these fonts. And also because the Assamese users have not asked these font makers for this addition. Instead we continue to use Bengali ro for the pro-kaar, because we do not see it.

Hi there! I see you are also a linguist here in the US and an editor on Wikipedia. I was just browsing through some Assamese Wikipedia articles (I don't speak Assamese, but my parents are from Bangladesh and I can understand much of the Assamese in these articles from exposure to my parents' East Bengali dialects) and I wanted to say three things:
1. First of all, it's great to see more linguists involved in Wikipedias to promote the use of languages like Assamese.
2. I'd love to work on Assamese in my future and I thought this would be a good time to introduce myself! I'm Sameer ud Dowla Khan, and I'm working on my Ph.D. at UCLA's linguistics department. Most of my work is in Bengali phonetics and phonology.
3. My browser reads all of the Assamese properly (with the vowels in the right places and whatnot), except for the ৰফলা (sorry I only know the Bengali term)... the "r" that comes underneath other consonants. For whatever reason, it always comes out as Assamese "r" with hôshonto/virama instead of the proper rô-fola. Do you know what I have to do to fix this? The rôfolas in Bengali come out fine, strangely enough...

First of all, I would like to thank you for considering me worthy of such a respectful barnstar with a xorai. Thanks a lot. About admin, new users are generally not given admin access. You can ask the new users to work for a while before getting admin status. In Nepali, we have just 3 admins so we had set a working criteria of at least 100 edits and (NOT or) one month of editing for someone to have admin status. Plus, the person must also know about wikifunctions like digital signature, wikifying articles etc. I think it might be good to have someone work for a while and learn a few wikifunctions before getting admin status. So, I think you did the correct work. However, do motivate the new users to learn about wikipedia and its functions and help them as well so that they dont get discouraged for not getting admin status. MediaWiki interface for Assamese

Hi Priyankoo. I see you have in the past done some Assamese localisation of the interface of MediaWiki by editing pages in the namespace MediaWiki. I was wondering if you knew that localisation in this local Wikipedia means that only this Wikipedia can benifit of your efforts for Assamese.

I am one of the administrators of Betawiki. In this wiki we facilitate localisation of any language for MediaWiki. I was wondering if you were willing to go over there and work on the localisation of Assamese. From there we will add your translations to the source code of MediaWiki, so that anyone can benefit from your efforts (for example on Wikimedia Commons) and those installing MediaWiki outside Wikimedia projects.

Currently less than 1% of the Assamese core messages for MediaWiki are available.

If you personally do not want to make the effort, for whichever reason, please do make an effort to try and find 2 or 3 other users that are willing to work on the generic translation for the MediaWiki interface on Betawiki. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hello Priyankoo, please do not translate the interface locally on as.wiki [1], but only on translatewiki:.

The reasons are:

• on translatewiki(betawiki) there is a documentation for most messages to avoid common errors such as translating variables etc. which break the interface
• on translatewiki the messages are up to date, if there is a change in the software they are updated and the messages that break the new changes are marked or corrected automatically
• the translation on translatewiki will be available in all wikimedia-foundation-wikis in the preferences, so an user can choose this language if he wishes
