( /ˈjæŋtsi/ or /ˈjɑːŋtsi/) ইয়াত -si , this phonetic symbol (group) to be pronounced as চি . This river is the same river known as ইয়াং চি কিয়াং । আমাৰ স্কুলত ডলি বাইদেৱে শিকাইছিল। JBDVIJASDVI (talk) 16:11, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

'য়াং' । — গীতাৰ্থ বৰদলৈ (talk) 18:03, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I don't think anyone should start a word with something beyond ক্ষ in Assamese i.e. with ড় , ঢ় , য় , ৎ , ং , ঃ or ৺ JBDVIJASDVI (talk) 18:44, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Normally Assamese words don't start with য় but there's a exception rule for foreign words. Also perhaps for certain people's names like Yakub. — গীতাৰ্থ বৰদলৈ (talk) 06:24, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
That's why I used ইয়াকুব instead of য়াকুব but that was changed without a discussion. Old textbooks in Asssamese on social studies mention the name of the river as ইয়াং চি কিয়াং and also I think there is no entry under য় in an Assamese dictionary. Use of য় at first place is not recommended, if not altogether prohibited. Partly because standard Devanagari consonant script does not run up to य़ and they use nukta (क़ ख़ ग़ ज़ ड़ ढ़ फ़) for representing foreign sounds but in Assamese য় is part of the script and not a nukta containing য and য় has specific uses in intermediate position to be combined with other vowel matra other than ি and end position before full stop where using ই is totally prohibited. Blindly following their conventions may result in loss of originality of the Assamese JBDVIJASDVI (talk) 15:58, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

"ইয়াং চি কিয়াং" নামটো পাঠ্যপুথিত পোৱা মনত আছে। হয়তো ই "য়াংজে"তকৈ বেছি প্ৰচলিত। প্ৰৱন্ধটো " ইয়াং চি কিয়াং"লৈ স্থানান্তৰ কৰি দিলে বেয়া নহয়। দিব্য দত্ত (talk) 17:07, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

The Hindi title for the river in the Hindi wiki is यांग्त्सीक्यांग and thus a script transliteration into Assamese will result in যাঙগ্ত্সীক্যাঙ্গ which is absurd and shall not be considered Assamese. Hence popular Assamese text book spelling ইয়াং চি কিয়াং which is approximate transcripted form may be used. In future, Assamese search engines shall incorporate this logic into their programs , if ever one day our renowned local kharkhowa computer engineers can make such engines exclusively searching for Assamese text in the web. Check what is happening by putting য়াংজে , ইয়াং চি কিয়াং and য়াং চি কিয়াং in the google. Count the number of results. So DIY, Decide It Yourself. You may be astonished to see that an innocent mistake in article naming can have such a destructive outcome! JBDVIJASDVI (talk) 15:19, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
